This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation – President Lincoln’s executive order that freed slaves in the Southern states and made the abolition of slavery a major goal of the Civil War. To mark this event, Dr. Thomas Hennessey, associate professor of history at Fayetteville State University, discusses how slaves, the Union and Confederate military and politicians changed President Lincoln’s mind on slavery and freed slaves in NC during and after the Civil War. Registration recommended.
